How to get mIRC and log in to dbAdvisors chat room
Long Version - step-by-step instructions

Member Kathryn Bassett wrote this FAQ on how to get mIRC and log in to dbAdvisors chat room

First thing to do is go to:
http://www.irchelp.org/irchelp/mirc/
and download the latest version (as of 9 Nov 2000, that is Version 5.81). It's a little over 1mg so won't take too long. It installs quickly and doesn't interfere with any other programs like Yahoo.

Next step, when we want to chat, start the mIRC program (now in your programs listing). If you don't automatically get an mIRC Options dialog, the second button from left is the icon to open it. Highlite Connect in the category box on left. On the right, make sure the IRC Servers box says All. If not, scroll to top until you see it. Now click on Add and type these things in their respective boxes.

Now you should see Database Advisors in the box under IRC Servers. (The next time you log in, you will find it at that bottom of the list since they are in numerical, not aphabetical order in the servers.ini file).

Full name, email, nickname, and alternate nickname are self-explanatory.
(Suggestion: for our official meetings, use real name for nickname? It would help us id each other quickly.)
The nickname can change at any time. It's not like Yahoo where you use the same one all the time.
If the nickname you choose won't work, it's because someone else on the IRC is using that nick at the moment; choose another.

Click to start the IRC connection (not the ok button, but the one that says Connect to IRC Server)

You will get another dialog: mIRC channels folder
In the box, type #dbAdvisors and click Join (see below for the help channel)

You should now be in the channel. If you get bounced by your server, you no longer have to be invited back in, you can do it yourself - big advantage over Yahoo and MSN.

Explanation about the @ you may see beside the Bro or others - That symbol stands for the control operator. We can make you a control op too and probably will, as appropriate.

I have made a separate page for samples of scripting in mIRC.
