How to Use the Access Developers Discussion List
Subscribing, Unsubscribing, and Getting Information
HOW TO USE THIS LIST
The purpose of the list is to provide an open forum for the posting and discussion of news and
information relating to developing applications in Microsoft Access. If you have something that
is not somehow related to Access, it would be better to post to one of the other lists.
We try to maintain a light, family oriented environment and recognize that humour and banter are part and parcel. However please restrict posting of jokes (topical, non-offensive only) to Fridays and mark them as OT/Humour in the subject line. Be also advised that we have a separate OT list, that you are welcome to join. Please use that to keep the traffic on AccessD very much ON topic. Because of the virii that can cause havoc with html mail, do not use html mail. Actually, plain text is preferred by most people as it downloads faster.
Commercial announcements regarding new Access related developer software are welcomed on a once per product basis, but please follow some common-sense guidelines- this list is not intended to be a marketing opportunity, but rather a forum for developers to share their wealth of experience and knowledge. Repeat abusers will be blocked.
Those developers wishing to make either their availability or their hiring needs known are welcome to post such messages but please restrict such use to no more than once per week.
Posts to 3rd party products, books, and/or services that you have a vested interest in should be clearly labeled as such. *Note that Corporpate Sponsorship provides "Official Sponsor of DBA" in the sig line (w/a link to your website)
Always consider whether your message will be of interest to the whole group, or whether it may be best sent to an individual list member, e.g. requests for copies of documents or other files. (Commonly known as 'me toos'.)
Please keep discussion civil and constructive, and take heated discussions and non-constructive comments off the list. Failure to do so will result in the subscribers' posting privileges being revoked by the list moderators for a "cooling off period." Threats of any nature are unprofessional and inappropriate, and will result in an immediate removal from the list.
The list relies on the good will of list members, to take the time to answer one another's questions. We cannot guarantee that all of your questions will be answered and your problems solved, but if you follow these guidelines, you stand a better chance!
-
Make the subject line descriptive and succinct, e.g. "Form resize" is better than "Help! Urgent!"
-
Mention the version of Access you are using, e.g. "Form resize A97"
-
Be as specific as you can, e.g. "Form resize to screen resolution, A97"
-
Keep it brief and simple, you can always expand later if people request more details.
-
Take care when using jargon; if it's Access jargon we probably know what you mean, otherwise never assume!
-
Be courteous, and sign your name at the bottom. Many list members will not respond to someone who remains nameless.
Finally, could you please ensure that your mailing software does not have automatic receipts enabled, and if you are away from the office for a period of time and wish to send 'out of office' messages, please unsubscribe while you are away.
MODERATORS
As lists grow, they will have moderators.
Check this list to see who they are.
ARCHIVES
The archives will be made available on the web site as soon as possible. Watch the list for
announcements. To prevent a message being added to the archive, type NO ARCHIVE in the body of
the message.
PROBLEMS
If you have ANY problems related to the Access Discussion List,
*please* do not post them to the list. List moderators (see above) are at your disposal for this purpose.
