How To Deal with Pending Posts
As a moderator, one of your responsibilities is to tend to posts held for moderation. All moderators will receive notices of posts held for moderation. There are many reasons why a post might be held. The most common reasons are as follows:
- Post is from a non-member
- Post is over the defined size limit
- Post is cc: to databaseadvisors.com
Handling Pending Posts
It's your job, as a moderator, to tend to held posts in a timely manner. You
will receive a notification via E-mail when a post is held. To continue:
1. Click the link or otherwise visit the address in the body of the E-mail notification message. As a general rule the URL will be http://databaseadvisors.com/mailman/admindb/ListName
2. In the Moderator Authentication page, enter your password and click the Let Me In button shown in Figure A.
Figure A:
Enter a Password
3. On the page that appears, select one of the following actions, as shown in Figure B, for each pending message:
- Defer
- Accept
- Reject
- Discard
- Preserve messages for the site administrator
- Forward messages (individually) to:
Figure B:
Administrative Requests
4. Fortunately, you can tend to several messages at once as shown in Figure C. When you're done, click the Submit All Data button to process the held posts.
Figure C:
Taking Action on Several Posts
Summary
When you receive notice that a post is pending, click the link in the
notification message you receive via E-mail to access the Tend to Pending
Requests page and take the appropriate action. Please check for these messages
while you're online and tend to pending posts as soon as possible. Since there
are several moderators online at any given time of the day, posts should be
forwarded to the list or otherwise dealt with in a timely manner.
